challenge!
find the smiley face that i totally didn't mean to put in there

edit
i feel a need to point out that they're both spartan IIIs
and that the SPI is a space rated version of the original

I feel that the SPI dude would be dead. I'm pretty sure I read in Ghosts of Onyx that the SPI arfoot soldies only, not meant for space in other words...

I dont remember reading anything
about it not being space rated
as far as I know, the SPI along with the MJOLNIR and the ODST suits,
are all vaccum rated
though the SPI only has an air supply for seven minutes i believe

and the wiki pages say nothing of it not being space rated
and since ODST and MJOLNIR suits are space rated
I'm assuming these are too
I mean..they're spartans
why wouldn't their suits be space rated

Only the SPARTAN Mark series armor is space capable. ODST and SPI are solidly ground based units. SPARTANS (MJOLNIR) armor is meant to be fully combat capable. They're super soldiers. They are trained and can fight freely between gravity and zero-g's. (Oxygen tanks built in alongside with shield pack).
And that's a wiki. People can alter that info freely, you can't trust a wiki.
SPI units may be SPARTAN III's (an upgrade of the Mark V and up) but they're cheaper versions meant solidly for stealth/in-and-out covert missions. Same mostly goes for the ODST's.

like he said, disposable foot soldiers -you don't plan for something you don't expect to need; they're for Spartan-IIIs, that's the key.

the wiki pages do say clearly "not air tight".

I don't think SPIA is vacuum-rated...

I know nothing of this..
as far as i know the ODST and MJOLNIR armors are space rated
and there's no reason for the SPI not to be
though there is a significant difference in air supply

from Halopedia (and Halo Nation says the same, they are the first two sites besides Wikipedia that come up when you Google "Halo wiki") : "The SPI armor is not waterproof or airtight, unlike MJOLNIR armor.
The SPI armor has an air supply that will last only seven minutes, while the MJOLNIR has an air supply which can sustain a wearer for ninety minutes."
Which means they can survive maybe a short time -since depressurization doesn't kill you immediately- possibly jumping between ships, or going through a depressurized section on a ship to get to a pressurized section -then asphyxiate. Presumably they can support extra tanks if they know ahead of time the atmosphere won't be breathable.
ODST and MJOLNIR armors serve different purposes: ODSTs are first-in shock troops, dropping in or boarding a dangerous situation, and backed up soon after; MJOLNIR is for long-term, mostly independent (aside from other Spartan IIs)survival.
SPIA is used for personnel who are regarded as disposable, unlike SPARTAN IIs, and intended to let them sneak into heavily guarded facilities, accomplish their missions, then (maybe, probably) die.

Of course nothing rules out another version, but officially...

:3 then I'll make that exact excuse.. another version

i do thank you for clearing this up my friend

of course, then you have additional troubles for the cooling/stealth systems, plus maneuvering in space... and now i'm doodling a SPI/VA (Vacuum Activity) variant...
actually, that's another reason these two are doomed-no thrust packs! D:
I hope a Pelican or Bumblebee are nearby...

haha the SPI is just trouble armor

there should be a ship somewhere around
I think I'll try a hand at a space rated SPI
